Calib Bruce- Aaron Watson

Hi, I’m Calib Bruce. I have been with Spaun drums since 2007 (the best drums ever made) I have had the opportunity to play many different drum kits and Spaun drums are by far my favorite drums. I have been playing drums for 27 years. 15 years on the professional level. I have been very fortunate to have had such a great career in the music industry and I thank God for everything.
I have toured and recorded with many artists. I have worked with Aaron Watson (check out www.aaronwatson.com and his Live DVD/CD combo to hear me and my Spaun drums, Barbara Fairchild, Cory Morrow, Elliot Park (very cool music, check him out at www.elliottpark.net and look for his new release “Fly boy” on iTunes and coming very soon on Pandora. You can hear me with my Spaun drums on that CD.) Gary P. Nunn, Sons of the Pioneers, Johnny Rodriguez, Southern Sky, theater shows in Branson, MO. and many others. I am currently living in Denver, CO with my wife and three children taking some time off the road and enjoying the time I have with my family. I am keeping busy, doing some recording, playing in church and am starting to get a few students.
I am currently using the Spaun Custom Series drums. All maple shells with a blond to black fade satin finish with black hardware. I love these drums, they have been a workhorse kit on the road and in the studio.
The sizes I use are as follows:
8”X10” rack tom w/ Audix D4 May miking system
9”x12” rack tom w/ Audix D4 May miking system
12”X14” floor tom w/ Audix D6 May miking system
14”X16” floor tom w/ Audix D6 May miking system
18”X22” bass drum w/ Audix D6 May miking system
6”X14” maple snare with puresound custom 30 wires w/ Audix I-5 on top and May Shure SM57 mic inside the drum. Using the May snare blender made by presonus. (Sweet)
Thanks to Randy May for such a cool system. The May system allows me to let the world hear how great Spaun drums are.
I use a variety of different heads depending on the application and the sound I’m going for. I mostly use Evans G Plus coated heads on the toms sometimes G2’s or EC2 coated or clear for the batter heads. I use G1’s for resonant heads. I use an Emad 1 bass drum head or an Aquarian Super Kick 1 depending on what kind of control I need for a particular application on the batter side. An Evans EQ3 or Aquarian Force II black or Regulator black for the resonant side. I use either an Evans Power Center Reverse Dot or a Remo C.S. Reverse Dot on the snare batter side. I use an Evans Hazy 300 for the snare side. Sometimes I will use a Remo Ambassador or a Diplomat for the snare side. The greatest thing about Spaun drums is that they always sound good. It doesn’t matter the situation that I am in or the heads that I choose for a show or a session the drums always tune up easy and stay in tune. It has to be that double 45 bearing edge. I have never been disappointed with my Spaun drums and will use them as long as Spaun is making drums.
Thanks to all the folks at Spaun for their knowledge and great customer service and allowing me to be a part of the best drum company in the world.
